LONDON, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- London mayor Sadiq Khan set out ambitious plans Wednesday to improve transport in the city for over the next 25 years.

His transport strategy, presented to the London Assembly for consideration before final publication in the coming weeks, will act as the backbone of transport planning across London.

It will help to deliver Khan's ambition for 80 percent of trips in London to be made on foot, by cycle or using public transport by 2041.

The strategy includes record investment in new and improved rail, tube and bus services, an unprecedented focus on walking and cycling, and a commitment to make the entire transport system zero-emission by 2050.

There will be new tube trains and signaling giving more frequent and reliable services, new green buses and taxis, new river crossings, and the transformation of London's streets to make walking, cycling and public transport the most appealing and practical choices for Londoners.

Over the next 20 years the strategy will see billions of dollars invested in delivering healthy streets across all London boroughs, helping to remove the need to travel by car, and make walking, cycling and taking public transport safer and easier, helping to promote healthier active lifestyles.

It will include major transformation schemes at London's famous Oxford Street and Old Street in Central London, as well as hundreds of walking and cycling schemes across inner and outer London to help more journeys become active, efficient and sustainable.

The plans aim at dramatically improving air quality across London and making London a zero-emission city.

Khan said: "With our unprecedented focus on walking, cycling and clean public transport, our ambitious Transport Strategy can act as a crucial driver for new homes and jobs, but also improve quality of life for everyone living in London."

The report also reveals Khan's plan for a zero-approach to people being killed or seriously injured in road crashes in London.

Khan's Vision Zero approach to road accidents applies to the whole transport system, and will aim for no one to be killed in or by a London bus by 2030, and for all deaths and serious injuries from road collisions to be eliminated from London's streets by 2041.

The mayor's transport strategy will be discussed by the London Assembly on March 8.
