BUCHAREST, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Moldova launched a "My Library" campaign on Thursday to promote and ensure sustainable and modern development of public libraries, so that they can be closer to the community.

The event was organized by the ministry of education, culture and research, in partnership with the Novateca program and the National Children's Library "Ion Creanga", according to news reaching here from Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.

Minister of education, culture and research Monica Babuc said at the launch event that thanks to Novateca Program, a seven-year national program supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID, libraries from Moldova had received new computers, while staff benefited from training.

Director of the Novateca program, Evan Tracz, said that the goal of the campaign was to promote innovation at public libraries in Moldova.

In recent years, 1,070 libraries adhered to the Novateca network, receiving modern equipment, including computers, tablets, robotics sets and others. At the same time, over 1,500 librarians received training at 38 national and regional training centers.

Novateca is a network of more than 1,000 public libraries in Moldova, providing the public with 21st-century technology tools, digital literacy learning resources, and community services that address local needs.

More than 450,000 library visitors have learned general Internet skills, and some 260,000 have used Novateca library resources to access government information and services online, according to Novateca.
